Did you know that monks in Switzerland since the 1600s have used dogs to find people who were trapped by avalanches in the Alps? Get this, the monks don’t train them too. The pups learned from the adults! Magical!! Also those barrels that supposedly carried brandy to warm those who were trapped, is completely fictional. The current monks of the St Bernard Hospice deny that their dogs ever carried a barrel around the neck.
Let’s be like the famous alpine rescue dog, Barry and help those lost and in need. Almost every world aid organization is still hard at work in the Philippines. Here are a few more places to donate to:
David Byrne concert - David Bryne has been working on a musical called “Here Comes Love,” a piece that follows the rise and fall of the former first lady of the Philippines, Imedla Marcos, portraying here as a symbol of the resilience of the filipino people. For those lucky to be in nyc a little before Thanksgiving, David Bryne and St Vincent will be playing a concert version of the musical. All the proceeds will go to doctors without borders.
Doctors Without Borders - If you can’t make it to the concert, you can donate directly to the cause they are supporting! They are an aaaaaaaamazing group working in over 60 countries that advocates for better medical practices, brings attention to neglected crises and brings aid to those in danger due to armed conflicts, epidemics, malnutrition, lack of health care and natural disasters like super typhoon Haiyan.
